HMS Tern Living Museum is excited to announce a special event welcoming a group of vintage military vehicle enthusiasts to the site from July 12th to July 15th, 2026.
This exhibition will not only showcase an impressive array of vintage military vehicles but will also serve as the grand finale of an exciting vintage vehicle drive across the breathtaking Highlands and Islands of Scotland. This event promises to create a lively and immersive period atmosphere at the museum, making it an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

Among the notable vehicles on display will be a diverse selection of military ambulances dating from the 1940s through the 1980s. These historical vehicles will be particularly showcased on Sunday, July 12th, and Wednesday, July 22nd, providing visitors with a rare opportunity to appreciate their design and significance. The ambulances are not only a testament to the engineering of their time but also highlight the critical role they played in military operations, serving the brave men and women during various conflicts.
The owners of these remarkable vehicles will be present throughout the event to engage with visitors, offering in-depth discussions about the history, restoration, and importance of these military machines in the context of military life during their operational years. Attendees will have the chance to learn about the stories behind each vehicle and gain a deeper understanding of their contributions to military history.
The group will remain on site until Wednesday, so if you happen to see a collection of military vehicles on the airfield during this time, there’s no need for concern—rest assured, you are not hallucinating or witnessing ghostly apparitions! Instead, you will be witnessing an extraordinary gathering of history coming to life right before your eyes. We invite everyone to join us for this exciting celebration of military heritage!
